Cataloguing The Collection

Currently working my way through all my owned music and making lists, adding them to Discogs as I go.

Thought I still had about 3,500 7" Singles, they had been in a cupboard untouched for about 10 years, but it seems I only have 2,168. Amazing how many I sold during the boot sale days of the 90's to 2000's.

Quite sad about that as I seem to have parted with a lot of valuable stuff all sold for a fraction of the real worth. Records still in my collection that I thought would be valuable aren't, whereas some the weird and wonderful discs collected in box loads of boot sale bargains turn out to be pretty valuable.

 

So far I've finished the 7" vinyl, the 10" 78's, the CD singles, Cassettes and the music video tapes.

Still to touch the vinyl albums and 12" singles and CD albums.

 

Can't remember the last time I bought any new records, and has been about 10 years since I picked up any boot sale bargains.

 

Hate to think how much room I would have needed if I had carried on collecting, as I am a hoarder and struggling to find room for the current music collection.

Also have about a 900 DVD's and still got 300 video tapes (despite throwing a couple of hundred away).

Poly Styrene R.I.P

Just saddened that another one is gone :(
Poly Styrene (Marianne Elliot) died of cancer at the age of 53 yesterday.
Joining the likes of Joe Strummer, Sid Vicious, Ari Up, Malcolm McLaren, most of the Ramones and many many others in the great punk gig in the sky :(

Eurovision

I have a confession ... I love Eurovision!!
Yeah I know it's tacky etc but it's good fun, a lot of the records are a pile of pants (usually the UK ones) and some of the acts are still stuck in the dark ages but in recent years there has been some reasonably good songs, not the winners as despite the voting rule changes the judging still tends to be biased with all the Balkan countries voting for each other and the many ex Russian states doing the same.
Possibly the reason I'm liking it more is the number of acts performing in English, nearly all of them in the last couple of years.
Here's my favourites from the last 3 contests, none of them won but I liked them so that's all that matters to me :) hope you agree?

 I haven't had time to listen to all this years entries but hopefully there are a few good ones again, it all starts again tonight with the first of 2 semi finals before Saturday's big event which is in Oslo this year.

Pendulum

This one's been on repeat in the car for the last couple of weeks, high bass in a small tin box sounds brilliant.
Pendulum's new single Watercolour, a shining light in a sea of chart dross.

This is the best vid I could find on YouTube and it has an annoying advert at the start and is a short verion of the tune at only 3.33 compared to my 5 minute version but you'll get the feel of it :)

Dr Feelgood - Oil City Confidential

For anyone who remembers my post about the Dr Feelgood documentary, you might like to know it's available on BBC I-player for the next week or so as it was shown on BBC4 on Friday night, I'm not sure if it's available outside the UK but I guess someone cleverer than me might have ripped it and it should be available somewhere soon.
Great stuff for any Feelgood fans, I really enjoyed it.
Some great archive footage of Canvey which is local to me, Wilko is nearly as mad now as he was then but with less hair, Julien Temples use of old movie clips to illustrate points adds a lot of humour to it and of course some great music.

Poison Girls - Real Women (Video)

Was going to post this on youtube but someone beat me to it.
One of many great tracks from the Poison Girls, this one is from around 1984.
Stands out for me as the film used in the video is of Southend seafront probably from the early seventies, featuring the old Kursaal amusement park (the world's first theme park) which was closed down in the late seventies.

LCD - Zorba's Dance

Here's a novelty item from the late 90's, LCD "The World's first digital supergroup".
The video was quite cutting edge at the time, but looks very amateur now, Shows how much technology has come on in ten years.

Frankie - Relax on the Tube 1983

The first version of Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood as featured on "The Tube" back in 1983.
The song was then titled "Relax (In Heaven Everything Is Fine)" and obviously underwent a massive Trevor Horn overhaul before hitting the shops and becoming an all time classic.
