Blondie - Blondie

The 1976 debut album plus a few bonus tracks on this 2001 Re-mastered CD version.
An interesting mix of styles with many of the tracks having an early Sixties feel right through to the more punky tracks like Rip her to shreds and Kung Fu Girls.

Blah blah … I picked up the “In the flesh” single in a cheapie box for 10p a few months before “Denis” hit the chart and many years later sold it on for £10 which is a 100 times what I paid for it!!
If only I could have done those sort of deals on everything I’d be a millionaire haha, and sadly with hindsight even this was a missed opportunity as that cheapie box had about another 20 copies of it and I bought only one :(

01 X Offender
02 Little Girl Lies
03 In The Flesh
04 Look Good In Blue
05 In The Sun
06 A Shark In Jets Clothing
07 Man Overboard
08 Rip Her To Shreds
09 Rifle Range
10 Kung Fu Girls
11 The Attack Of The Giant Ants
12 Out In The Streets (Original Instant Records Demo)
13 The Thin Line (Original Instant Records Demo)
14 Platinum Blonde (Original Instant Records Demo)
15 X Offender (Original Private Stock Single Version)
16 In The Sun (Original Private Stock Single Version)

Blondie - Eat To The Beat

This is still my favourite Blondie album and sadly (in my opinion) it was all downhill after this.
3 great singles and tracks like Shayla and the title track would have made good singles as well.
Aaah makes me all nostalgic ... sob

01 - Dreaming
02 - The Hardest Part
03 - Union City Blue
04 - Shayla
05 - Eat To The Beat
06 - Accidents Never Happen
07 - Die Young Stay Pretty
08 - Slow Motion
09 - Atomic
10 - Sound A Sleep
11 - Victor
12 - Living In The Real World
13 - Die Young Stay Pretty (Live At BBC 1979)
14 - Seven Rooms Of Gloom (Live At BBC 1979)
15 - Heroes (Live At Hammersmith Odeon 1980)
16 - Ring Of Fire (Live) (From The Roadie OST)

Blondie - Parallel Lines

Possibly the biggest selling of the Blondie albums and most well known, 6 of the 12 tracks were released as singles with most of the rest ending up as B-sides.
Once again 4 bonus tracks to fill the CD.

01 - Hanging On The Telephone
02 - One Way Or Another
03 - Picture This
04 - Fade Away And Radiate
05 - Pretty Baby
06 - I Know But I Don't Know
07 - 11:59
08 - Will Anything Happen
09 - Sunday Girl
10 - Heart Of Glass
11 - I'm Gonna Love You Too
12 - Just Go Away

15 - I Know But I Don't Know (Live In Philadelphia 1978)
16 - Hanging On The Telephone (Live In Dallas 1980)

Blondie - Plastic Letters

First up is Plastic Letters which was the second commercialy released Blondie album in 1978, as it included Denis and Presence it was probably the first one most of us bought.
My favourite track is Contact in Red Square which was a B-side to Denis.
This is the 2001 reissue disc and includes 4 bonus tracks a demo an outtake a B-side and a live track.

01 - Fan Mail
02 - Denis
03 - Bermuda Triangle Blues (Flight 45)
04 - Youth Nabbed As Sniper

06 - (I'm Always Touched By Your) Presence Dear

09 - Love At The Pier
10 - No Imagination
11 - Kidnapper
12 - Detroit 442
13 - Cautious Lip
14 - Once I Had A Love (AKA The Disco Song) (1975 Version)
15 - Scenery
16 - Poets Problem
17 - Detroit 442 (Live In Philadelphia 1978)

Blondie

I bought all the early (70's) Blondie albums on vinyl and sold most in the early nineties, bought them all again on CD in 2001 when they were reissued and recently sold most to raise funds again :(

Blondie - Denis

Not sure if this was different to the 7" version, but it had a bigger picture :)
Really love the 2 tracks on the B.

01 - Denis
02 - Contact In Red Square
03 - Kung Fu Girls

Blondie - Hanging On The Telephone

Loved watching the video of this song, Debbie at her best.
So many people have said to me that they prefer the original Nerves version, well sorry to come across as a plastic punk but I like this version best, the Nerves one was OK but they never had a gorgeous blonde frontwoman so to my mind there was no competition :)

01 - Hanging On The Telephone
02 - Will Anything Happen

Blondie - Atomic

Debbie in bin bag dress and the songs pretty good as well :)

01 - Atomic
02 - Die Young Stay Pretty

Blondie - Heart Of Glass

OK so Blondie went Disco it's a great song

01 - Heart Of Glass
02 - Rifle Range

Various Artists - Cover Versions

I tend to either love or hate cover versions, if they are too similar to the original I'll label them as shite, or if a band has put their own distinctive mark on them I usually love them.
Here is a totally random selection, by no means the best and probably not even including all my favourites (just ones that sprung to mind without having to search too hard).

VA - Switched On (The Cool Sound Of TV Advertising)

Switched On (The Cool Sound Of TV Advertising)

Like the Essential soundtracks album I picked this up after collecting a pile of vouchers from some product that I can't actually remember?
So glad I did as this is a brilliant collection of songs.
I can't remember how many times I've only discovered bands just because one of their tracks was used in an advert and it's stuck in my head.
Not sure if it really works on an advertising level as I often can't think what the product was and it's only through compilations like this that I find the music, this is from around 2001.

Blondie Live 1977

Blondie live at the Old Waldorf in San Francisco 21st September 1977.
Found this on the net a while back and it's a pretty good concert from the early days of Blondie.
The 15 track late concert which with a bit of searching can still be found around the web, also the rarer 25 track warm up concert which includes a few false starts and the like, and is that little bit less professional or to my ears more enjoyable.

Various - The Big Music

Another Vox magazine compilation album.
I didn't even have to buy the mag for this one, as I bought it at a boot sale for 50p :)
I think this is an excellent compilation, as the tracks are totally diverse with something for everyone.
Highlights include an alternate version of the Specials "Free Nelson Mandella", live tracks by Ian Hunter and Sinead O'Connor, Blondie's "Sunday girl" sung in French and artists as diverse as The Ramones and Jethro Tull.
Good stuff.

Various - Sound Of The Suburbs

The cover says 20 New Wave hits from the 70's and 80's and it's true the tracks are from those decades, but not sure if some of the tracks are really new wave?
Still it's a pretty good collection of tunes including a few compilation standards and some that rarely get a mention.
I think Lou Reed got star billing as his "Perfect day" remake was riding high in the charts at the time.

01 - Jam Going Underground
02 - Blondie Denis

CBGB's And The Birth Of US Punk

A British compilation from about 2002, includes a few of the more obvious artists like the Ramones, Blondie and the Velvet Underground while missing some you would expect on a CBGB's comp like the Talking Heads and Patti Smith.
But this makes it a good comp as it includes some artists which are unexpected, such as the excellent Pere Ubu and Suicide plus the best version of Roadrunner.

01 Velvet Underground And Nico - Waiting For The Man
02 Sonics - Louie Louie
03 Seeds - Excuse Excuse
04 Thirteenth Floor Elevators - Slip Inside This House
05 New York Dolls - Trash
06 Iggy And The Stooges - Tight Pants
07 Electric Eels - Agitated
08 Suicide - Speed Queen
09 Pere Ubu - Heart Of Darkness
10 Richard Hell And The Voidoids - Blank Generation
11 Television - Friction (Live At CBGB's)
12 Wayne County And The Electric Chairs - I Had Too Much To Dream
13 Blondie - Rip Her To Shreds
14 Dead Kennedys - California Uber Alles
15 Dead Boys - Sonic Reducer (Original Mix)
16 Ramones - Judy Is A Punk (Original Demo 75)
17 Johnny Thunders And The Heartbreakers - Born To Lose
18 Jonathan Richman And The Modern Lovers - Roadrunner (Once)
