Cataloguing The Collection

Currently working my way through all my owned music and making lists, adding them to Discogs as I go.

Thought I still had about 3,500 7" Singles, they had been in a cupboard untouched for about 10 years, but it seems I only have 2,168. Amazing how many I sold during the boot sale days of the 90's to 2000's.

Quite sad about that as I seem to have parted with a lot of valuable stuff all sold for a fraction of the real worth. Records still in my collection that I thought would be valuable aren't, whereas some the weird and wonderful discs collected in box loads of boot sale bargains turn out to be pretty valuable.

 

So far I've finished the 7" vinyl, the 10" 78's, the CD singles, Cassettes and the music video tapes.

Still to touch the vinyl albums and 12" singles and CD albums.

 

Can't remember the last time I bought any new records, and has been about 10 years since I picked up any boot sale bargains.

 

Hate to think how much room I would have needed if I had carried on collecting, as I am a hoarder and struggling to find room for the current music collection.

Also have about a 900 DVD's and still got 300 video tapes (despite throwing a couple of hundred away).

Baddiel Skinner And The Lightning Seeds - Three Lions 98

The World cup is here again, and for some reason we don't have an official England song? so here's one of the best of the old ones includes the 98 version plus the original.
Have listened to this years efforts and haven't found any as good as these so here it is while we're still in the Cup (give Greeny a break, the other 10 should have scored more goals and it wouldn't have mattered).

Sad also as I had my England rant ready for all my American facebook "friends" and couldn't really post it :(

Great song, great video.
Remember seeing the full video, which had a great comedy ending where she survives the head on crash only to be killed by the rock she'd jammed on the gas pedal, also thought it was really funny that her "tattoo" was rubbing off on the car seat.

Brainbug - Nightmare

One of those I used to hear a lot but never actually knew what the record was called or who it was by until I picked it up on a compilation album one day.
Often heard at the beginning of Man City matches better than Everton's Z Cars theme but not a patch on Bubbles haha.

Chumbawamba - Tubthumping

To be honest I liked this for about 2 listens then it started to get on my nerves, also used in far too many TV programmes. Chumbawamba have done some great songs over the years but will probably be remembered by most for this?
Still makes me wince when Eton educated toffs like Boris Johnson and David Cameron quote "I get knocked down, but I get up again" considering Chumbawamba were famous for being an Anarchist band.

I like A, although they're a nightmare to search for on the internet :)
The lead singers voice is sort of unique in that he can't really sing but it still sounds great.

A were a band that promised much but faded from the scene soon after this single and the album "Hi-fi serious".
From what I've read problems with the follow up album saw it released 3 years late by which time fans of the earlier stuff had given up waiting and the album flopped, they were then dropped by their record label (shame).

Sleeper - Sale Of The Century

I saw Sleeper a few times in the late seventies when my mates band were on the supporting bill at local gigs, of course this is irrelevant as it was a completly different band.
This is one of two top ten singles the other Sleeper had in the mid nineties.

As I’ve been out of circulation for a while I don’t know if everyone has this yet, it was a bonus EP with the last album.
Four top instrumentals which should be in everyone’s collection.

Really loved this at the time and it still sounds good, one of the better charity records.

Offspring - Why Don't You Get A Job

I like the Offspring and I'm not sure why, a lot of their records sound similar.
This hit no.2 in the charts in 99 on the back of Pretty Fly, they have released better songs which didn't do as well.
The other tracks are better, Walla Walla is good and the remix of the A-side is interesting :)

A must have at the time, although overplayed on the radio meant I got sick of it.
