When I think of Dr Feelgood I always think of Wilko Johnson (or John Wilkinson - clever name change ..), although the Feelgood's only top 30 hit was 2 years after he left?
Wilko is still with us and enjoying his not very rock n roll hobby of Astronomy!!
Lives near to me so I'll be looking out for that rooftop.

Dr Feelgood - Roxette

To celebrate the first showing of Oil City Confidential at the national film theatre this Friday here's what I consider to be their best song.
"Roxette" and "Keep it out of sight" which were both recorded live at the Kursaal in Southend.


The film itself is a documentary by Julien Temple detailing the rise and fall of the best pub rock group ever.
Quote from film blurb - "Members of The Clash, Blondie and The Sex Pistols join the surviving members of Dr Feelgood and collaborators Jools Holland and Alison Moyet to tell the story of Canvey, 70's England and the greatest local band in the world."

I'm not sure if the film will make a general release or just turn up on Channel 4 one night? but I'll be looking out for it as I was lucky enough to see them twice in the seventies.

The Best Gig I Never Went To

Hunting through my old junk I came across this bit of paper torn from "Sounds" from sometime in 1976, I had fancied going to this gig as I had been to a couple of shows at the Kursaal Southend before and at the time was trying to see at least one band a week as I had just started earning.
The Pistols turned up on Janet Street Porters Sunday morning show "the London Weekend Show" and thought I've gotta get along to that.
A little later they appeared on TV with Bill Grundy and the rest is history as they say.
The gig was cancelled and at the time it seemed like no big deal as most of the bands I saw at the time were never heard of again, but with hindsight it would have been amazing to have been there if it had gone ahead - The Sex Pistols, The Damned, The Clash and Johnny Thunder all playing here in Southend.
I think I ended up going to see the Shadows at the Cliffs instead!! very punk of me haha
